BOTTELARY HILLS RENOSTERVELD CONSERVANCY was registered in 2002 and comprises about 2000 hectares of farmland set aside by farmers in the Bottelary district for the conservation of indigenous renosterveld. In 1995 Tielman and wife Janine registered the Mooiplaas Private Nature Reserve, one of only two private nature reserves in the Bottelary Hills. The nature reserve is situated in the heart of the Cape Floral Kingdom, recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site and the smallest yet richest plant kingdom in the world.
BOTTELARY HILLS MTB TRAIL were opened by the Bottelary Hills Renosterveld Conservancy (BHRC) in April 2011. The trails formalise riding in the area and serve as a much needed source of funds to further conservation efforts.
